September 13, 2012 “In Beauty May I Walk”- Navajo Prayer

Poem of the Day

In Beauty May I Walk

In beauty may I walk;
All day long may I walk;
Through the returning seasons may I walk.

Beautifully will I possess again
Beautifully birds
Beautifully butterflies…

On the trail marked with pollen may I walk;
With grasshoppers about my feet may I walk;
With dew around my feet may I walk.

With beauty before me may I walk
With beauty behind me may I walk
With beauty above me may I walk
With beauty all around me,
may I walk.

In old age, wandering on a trail of beauty, lively;
In old age, wandering on a trail of beauty, living again…
It is finished in beauty.
It is finished in beauty.

Navajo Prayer

“In Beauty May I Walk” is a Navajo prayer that I have come to love. It is simply asking to do all things in life with beauty, illustrated through the metaphor…

Thich Nhat Hanh on Impermanence

Katie Spring

Impermanence Makes Everything Possible

We are often sad and suffer a lot when things change, but change and impermanence have a positive side.  Thanks to impermanence, everything is possible.  Life itself is possible.  If a grain of corn is not impermanent, it can never be transformed into a stalk of corn.  If the stalk were not impermanent, it could never provide us with the ear of corn we eat.  If your daughter is not impermanent, she cannot grow up to become a woman.  Then your grandchildren would never manifest.  So instead of complaining about impermanence, we should say, “Warm welcome and love live impermanence.”  We should be happy.  When we see the miracle of impermanence our sadness and suffering will pass.

~Thich Nhat Hanh

Heart Lesson of the Day: Being The Change and “Following Through”

be the change

People whose actions do not match their words are very frustrating to deal with on a personal level. I do not like dealing with those that do not follow through — whether it be in word or deed. grrr… If you say you’re going to do something, do it. “Say what you mean and mean what you say” is a very simple concept.

:: le sigh ::

I am probably horribly guilty of this very same trait since it irks me so. I guess I’ve stumbled across my “Heart Lesson” for today. Kind of humbling when that happens, isn’t it? But it definitely takes the edge off my irritation.

“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” – Mahatma Gandhi

Happy Friday, folks! I’m going to be right over here, learning my lessons, staying humble, and most of all making sure that I’m following through on all that I’ve promised. After all… compassion, “following through,” and CHANGE starts at home… with me.
